Evaluation of a Youth Sports Concussion Prevention Toolkit

School lockers with open doors and sports equipment.

In partnership with Seattle Children's Research Institute and Island County Public Health's Safe Kids Coalition, this project aims to refine and finalize the Youth Sports Concussion Prevention and Response Toolkit, an evidence-based educational resource originally developed by Drs. Emily Kroshus and Sara Chrisman from Seattle Children’s Research Institute, and Jen Krenz from Island County Health. The toolkit is designed for use in high school settings and club sports, providing concussion education resources for athletes, parents, coaches, and athletic directors.

Over the course of five months, we will partner with five key stakeholder groups, high school athletes, coaches, licensed athletic trainers, parents, and athletic directors to refine the toolkit content and format. Through structured interviews, we will review components of the toolkit and get stakeholders’ feedback.

Following the interview process, the research team will summarize all interview feedback and use it, along with ongoing stakeholder input, to make targeted modifications to the toolkit's content and format. By the close of this Phase I project, the toolkit will be fully revised and ready for the Phase II pilot test of the toolkit’s efficacy.
