Max and Jenna's Laws outline specific responsibilities for coaches, because they play a key role in concussion management. Coaches are on the front lines and often are the first to observe a bump, jolt, or blow to the head that could cause a concussion. After the student is cleared to return to play by a healthcare provider, the coach is involved in returning the student to play.
Coach Responsibilities
-
Recognize: Participate in annual training in recognizing the symptoms of concussion
-
Remove: Students suspected of having a concussion must be removed from play
-
Return: A student may return to play when all symptoms have resolved, at least one day has elapsed since the injury, and a medical release has been obtained
